At ¡Viva el Español!, we believe that learning a foreign language in the elementary school years is an essential part of a child’s education and development. Students will learn vocabulary related to a variety of everyday themes, practice using it within sentences, and master many useful phrases. The program uses a full-immersion approach, and students learn while singing songs, playing games, and doing hands-on projects. Note that in order to make progress with a foreign language, it’s important to play and have fun in the language two + days per week rather than just one. Students will attend this Enrichment class on both Tuesdays and Thursdays at Emerson.

¡Viva el Español! classes offer:

  • High-quality instruction by native Spanish speakers.
  • Incorporation of learning activities that are culturally based.
  • Teaching around a theme or subject area.
  • High-quality manipulatives, visuals, music and cultural items from Spanish-speaking countries.
  • Activities that encourage learning through active participation, including singing, dancing, movement, role-playing, games, stories, arts and crafts.
